What are Combo Brows?

Combo brows include a combination of microblading and powder brows (shading). Combination brows are characterized by microblading hair-like strokes from the beginning to the middle of the brow give the brow a natural look, which then transitions to a powdered effect to the body and tail of the brow to give the brow more fullness and density. This look will still appear natural and but it will be darker and fuller compared to microblading alone.

Who is a Candidate for Combo Brows?

Combo Brows are great for clients with normal to moderately oily skin. So if your skin is too oily for microblading alone, combo brows might be a viable alternative. For someone with very sparse brows, the shading can give the brow more body, while the hair-strokes keep it looking natural.

How Do I Know if I Should Get Combo Brows or Microblading?

Choosing microblading alone or doing a combo brow comes down to what you are looking to achieve. If you are just wanting to create a natural hair stroke look, then Microblading alone is the route to go. Microblading alone will not achieve a “makeup look”, it’s meant solely to create “little hairs” but also give you the ability to add brow makeup for a more dramatic look. If you are wanting a darker, fuller, and more of a “makeup look”, then a combination brow is what you are looking for!

How Many Sessions Does It Take?

Combo brows is a two-step process just like microblading. Two visits are needed to ensure that all the strokes are evenly saturated with pigment and to go over any areas on the skin that didn’t take the ink as well. The touch-up appointment takes place 6 to 8 weeks after the initial appointment so that the pigments settled into the skin. During the touchup, any needed adjustments are made to ensure that each hair-stroke has even color.

How Long Does Combo Brows Last?

The pigment used in combo brows is designed to breakdown in the skin over time. Combo brows can last several years, but this is dependent on skin tone, skin type, sun exposure, lifestyle, and medication. With this in mind, we recommend a yearly color boost about 12-18 months after your initial treatment!

What is the Pre-Care, Post-Care, and Healing Schedule?

Pre-Care:

The pre-care is similar to microblading. We require all clients to avoid alcohol 24 hours before the procedure and caffeine the day of the procedure. Clients must not be taking any antibiotics or blood thinners as well. In addition, clients must refrain from using retinol on their forehead area for 7-10 days prior to the procedure.

Post-Care:

Aftercare is critical, and taking care of your new brows is extremely important for longevity and best results.

  • Do not let any water, lotion, soap, or makeup touch your eyebrow area 7 days after your procedure.

  • Wash your face carefully around the eyebrow without getting water on the area. During the shower, keep your face away from the showerhead or take a bath.

  • After 4 days, make sure your hands are very clean, and gently apply the post-care ointment with a cotton swab and clean hands. Please be sure to use the ointment sparingly as your skin needs to heal itself. This can be done twice a day, morning, and night. The brows should not appear greasy, glossy, or shiny which happens if you applied too much. This can suffocate the skin and delay healing. Never apply on wet/damp tattoo and continue putting on the ointment until your brows are no longer scabbing.

Healing Timeline:

Your brows will heal in 4 stages:

1st Stage (Week 1) - Dark, Bold, and Unnatural

Brows will start to develop a thin layer of scab

2nd Stage (Week 2) - Itchy, Peeling, Patchy

The scab is starting to feel tight and dry. Itching and flaking will occur during this week. This is the beginning stages of scabs peeling off. Avoid picking or scratching as it can pull off scabs prematurely and cause patchy results or scarring.

3rd Stage (Week 3) - Light and Uneven

Scabs are done peeling. Brows will appear very light after scabs come off (the lightness will vary for each individual), every week for up to 6 weeks, the color will continue to surface, and brows will get darker. Brows are safe from water and clients may return to their normal skincare routine.

4th Stage (Week 4) - Brows Get Darker and Fuller

At this stage, the color of the brows is complete and all redness is gone. Brows have fully healed. A complimentary touch-up will be needed to make proper adjustments after at least 6 weeks.
