Microblading Lifespan & How to Get Lasting Results!
Microblading can last anywhere from 9 months to 3 years depending on several factors!
Because Microblading involves placing pigment in the epidermal/dermal junction, pigment will not stay there forever as a traditional tattoo does. This is actually the biggest benefit with Microblading, as your brows will eventually fade over time and customizations can be made once they have faded enough for your annual touch-up. Brow trends change over the years and Microblading allows your artist to keep up with those trends as well as changing the shape as your face and style changes.
This client had a minimal amount of brow hairs but got a fluffy set of new brows in just an hour! The big question is, how can she maintain these results?
Maintaining Your New Set of Brows for Longevity
Listed below are a list of recommendations that may help make your brows stay crisp for as long as possible:
Follow ALL aftercare instructions
Avoid sunlight during the healing process
Make sure to come in for your touch-up within the 4-8 week period
Avoid dying your brow hairs during and after the healing process
During the healing process, make sure to drink as much water as possible to maintain hydration of the skin
These are just general guidelines and if these are not followed, you will still have lasting results, but possibly not as long as you anticipate.
Factors That May Reduce the Length of Your Results
There are controlled and uncontrolled factors that influence your healed brow results
Factors Within Your Control:
How closely you follow aftercare instructions (avoiding sweating, direct water contact, sun, makeup on brows, etc)
Smoking, as smoking will reduce and impact healing time. Please refrain from smoking during your healing process
Hydration of the skin, so guzzle down all the water!
Avoid drinking caffeine, taking vitamin E, fish oil, or other blood thinners prior to your appointment as they can impact the Microblading procedure. Heavy bleeding will not allow the pigment to penetrate into the incision properly
Factors Outside of Your Control:
Your skin’s age, as older skin tends to retain less pigment compared to younger skin
Very oily skin
Excessive sun damage
This client is an example of a before and after her yearly touch-up! She healed great and her natural fading progression led her to come back after one year.
What if You Didn’t Come for Your Second Session?
The 4 to 8 week touch-up after your initial appointment helps solidify your shape and allows the brow pigment to last between the 9 month to three year brow-expectancy before your annual touch-up.
If you didn’t want the touch-up or couldn’t make it for whatever reason, what will happen?
Your brows life span will be reduce dramatically. If you choose not to get your brows touched-up, expect them to last anywhere from 4 to 6 months.
